On 26 August, we celebrate Kumbura's Rescueversary—a day that marks the beginning of an extraordinary journey from tragedy to hope. Rescued as a young orphaned calf in 2009, Kumbura found not only safety at HERD but also a family among the elephants who helped guide him through his earliest years. Today, he has grown into a confident young bull with a playful personality, strong bonds within the herd, and a bright future ahead. As we celebrate this special milestone, we honour Kumbura's resilience and the second chance that changed his life forever.
